THE BROOD
Supermamma,
Mama hen, Culeca hen, overprotective, mom Wendy syndrome. They are just a few names
that are given to a mother or father who dedicates too much to their children
and ends up living for them. The common cause, fear, the predictable result,
The brood.

Survive, your brood needs you. This work is
an extrapolation of the terrible reaches that has any bad conceived attachment,
which degenerates into an illness. The characters show us that love can be very
selfish and easily hides that pettiness in the typical image of maternal
sacrifice. This exaggerated and anachronistic stereotype of pain-reward is
perceived in contemporary society as a decadent figure of self-complacency with
blackmailing tendencies – beautifully depicted in the work – that manages to
drag its entire environment into the void. survive, your Brood needs you. This
work is an extrapolation of the terrible reaches that has any bad conceived
attachment, which degenerates into an illness. The characters show us that love
can be very selfish and easily hides that pettiness in the typical image of
maternal sacrifice. This exaggerated and anachronistic stereotype of
pain-reward is perceived in contemporary society as a decadent figure of
self-complacency with blackmailing tendencies – beautifully depicted in the work
– that manages to drag its entire environment into the void.
The work revolves around a
marriage that lives locked in the deepest apathy and spends the days waiting
for something, wasting their chances of coexistence complaining about each
other, but none change their actions and meanwhile, the Brood continues to
grow; An entity that, in the opinion of the woman is unique, special and her
partner considers him a monster.
This couple has all their
hopes put in this being, but the woman who begat it is not willing to allow it
to ripen or relates, for fear of not being necessary. The father gives the
impression of being against that system based on sacrifice and seems to be a
type of ideological counterpart of his wife, but it is not for altruism or
compassion for his partner, because he is another type of offspring, unable to
survive without it. Man presents himself as a spectator of his own life and
lacks in character, he cannot even feed himself and is unable to decide. His
inability is such, that he prefers to steal a morsel of the infant's food to
get to eat or cook the own.
The stage is simple and does
not allow distractions, a small room with kitchen and a staircase with a
grating. This simplicity allows us as readers to delve into the plot very
quickly and begin to coexist with this dysfunctional couple, in addition we can
almost touch, smell the frustration and decay of the environment, seasoned with
the words of empty breath of the woman who He adores his offspring as if he
were a kind of deity.
This dramaturgy allows to see
on paper a process of self-condemning miseducation of which the participants,
man and woman are protagonists and even when the gate is to contain the
breeding, they are prisoners to contain to their own creation. Meanwhile they
try to coexist between the lack, the uncertainty, the judgements coming from
the outside and the continuous visits of the examiner.
The use of the elements of the
environment is present in this work, from the secretions that come down the
staircase, the altar with candles, to the colors produced by the TV without a
sign of man, we are giving signs of the status of the characters and do not
allow to relax the level of attention,
in trying to interpret them, besides, it gives variants to the stage, this makes
more dynamic the reading and helps the reader to imagine what is written.
It is a very deep work that
can be given several readings, in the end, the breeding could be many things
besides a child. A trauma, maybe some vice or negative behavior, even a system
of government.
The brood shows us a crude
and ripe Carlos Talancon. I would have liked a little more resistance in the
climatic moments, but it is understood that the depletion of the characters and
the point of desperation that they reach, ends with their force and that makes
that within the universe that managed to create, each reaction is sensible.
It is not a work that depends on the quality
stage montage to be valued. The literary text floats by itself and is highly
recommended for those who want to have a good time enjoying a quality work.
